A Lifetime in the Ocean
40+ Years of Ocean Experience. One Mission: Help You Inspire Your Ocean Life.
My Ocean Journey
Growing Up in Santa Cruz
My ocean life began in Santa Cruz, California—one of the world’s most iconic surf towns. Growing up with the Pacific Ocean as my backyard, I was immersed in surf culture, ocean exploration, and the deep connection between humans and the sea from an early age.
Santa Cruz taught me that the ocean isn’t just a place—it’s a teacher, a healer, and a source of endless discovery. Those early years shaped everything that followed
40 Years of Multi-Disciplinary Ocean Experience
Over four decades, I’ve dedicated my life to mastering multiple ocean disciplines
Surfing: From Santa Cruz point breaks to remote reef breaks, riding waves has been my longest relationship with the ocean
Freediving: Exploring the underwater world on a single breath, connecting with marine life in their environment
Fishing: Understanding ocean ecosystems, reading conditions, and respecting the catch
Foiling: Embracing new technology to experience the ocean in revolutionary ways
SUP (Stand-Up Paddleboarding): Combining fitness, exploration, and ocean connection
Sailing: Harnessing wind and understanding weather patterns
Ocean Safety & Rescue: Professional training to keep others safe in the wate
Marine Biology & Ecology: Studying the ocean to better understand and protect it
This multi-disciplinary approach isn’t just about variety—it’s about reading the ocean, adapting to conditions, and finding the right activity for each moment. It’s about understanding that the ocean offers infinite ways to connect, and the best watermen are those who can flow between disciplines.
The Birth of Your Ocean Life
After decades of personal ocean experiences, I realized my greatest calling: helping others discover their own transformational relationship with the sea.
This Ocean Life Podcast was born from a desire to share the stories of people whose lives have been changed by the ocean. Over 150 episodes, I’ve interviewed surfers, freedivers, fishermen, foilers, sailors, marine biologists, and ocean advocates—each with a unique story of transformation, healing, and purpose found in the water.
Your Ocean Life Adventures emerged from a simple truth: stories inspire, but experiences transform. I wanted to create a way for people to move from listening about ocean life to living it—through personalized, multi-sport excursions that adapt to conditions and individual goals.
The Condition-Adaptive Philosophy
One of the most important lessons I’ve learned from a lifetime in the ocean: you can’t force the ocean to fit your plan. You must adapt to what the ocean offers.
This philosophy guides everything we do. Instead of rigid itineraries, we read conditions—wind, swell, visibility, marine life—and adjust activities accordingly. If the surf is flat but the water is clear, we freedive. If the wind picks up, we downwind paddle or wing foil. If a bite is on, we fish. This approach ensures every day is optimized for the best possible ocean experience. It’s not about checking boxes—it’s about flowing with the ocean as best we can.
Why I Do This
The ocean has given me everything: purpose, health, community, adventure. Now, my mission is to help others expand their own ocean life—whether through the inspiration of my podcast guests or flowing in the ocean with me. I believe everyone has an ocean life waiting to be expanded and enhanced – my role is simply to help you find it.
